The DarkSide 5/3/09

The DarkSide

Welcome to The DarkSide, an online serial published on a frequent basis, usually monthly The DarkSide is written by a husband and wife team, Steve and Alice, who share a love for telling stories. We enjoy our time spent crafting this tale and hope those who stop by like it as much.

What's New: Not much, I'm sorry to say. I'm in a creative funk, as is Steve, so we've not done much more than talk about The DarkSide in a while. It will be finished, though, so fear not. I'm cranking up on production as we speak. For now, reach the archives and enjoy Episode 42: The Highs and Lows.

Shu Family Update 5/3/09

ShumanCreative Central

This section will now be dedicated to an update on the Shu family. Our house is like a zoo most days now, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

We'll start with Steve. He's an excellent father and husband, as well as a teacher. He's working with Aeryn and Jesse on their school skills. Both girls are already ahead of the curve.

Aeryn is excelling in just about everything. No guarantee, but the doctor thinks she'll be over six feet tall. She can count forward and backwards, and apply both in real life. She knows all of her alphabet and is beginning the first steps in reading. She's also working on potty training and doing well. Aeryn works hard for a reward of bubbles.

Jesse is a mess right now. She is nearly a constant fit, but we try to ignore that. She is developing in all areas good and bad. On the good side, she's repeating lots of words and babbling like a brook. Of course she's been walking forevre. Most of the time, she loves playing with her sister and being very cute.

As for me, Alice, I work most of the time. The rest of it I take care of and play with the kids and Steve. Hopefully I get myself out of the creative funk in which I have been mired and update this page more.

Episode 42: The Highs and Lows

Though Maggie hadn't been spending much time in the furniture shop lately, she apparently had no need to worry that business might be suffering. At least that was one thing she didn't have to think about. Holly had called her earlier in the day in an absolute panic. Furniture had been selling left and right, she had five deliveries to make, and the showroom was full of people. Maggie came in as fast as she could to help. She knew that she probably needed a break from obsessing over her lunch with Reed Hackman.

At almost four in the afternoon, foot traffic was still heavy. She'd been waiting on one couple who had just moved to the area for the last thirty minutes. The time drain hurt her ability to serve the others milling about, but the couple bought three pieces, so it was likely worth it. Holly helped as much as she could. The girl, whose Goth lifestyle was only partly concealed by her more formal business dress, was not a salesman by any stretch.

Maggie stood in the center of the showroom trying to gauge if any of the six other customers in the store needed help. The circular layout of the sections made spotting people easy, despite some visual obstacles such as high dressers and television cabinets. The dark-haired woman decided that a couple in the bedroom section appeared to need assistance, so she moved to their area. She barely noticed the ding from the doorway as another person came into the store. Somewhere in the back of her mind she hoped that whoever it was, they were just a looker.
